A few years ago, like so many skincare buffs, I started using face sheet masks.

Besides the casual opulence of a fabric sheet dripping in serum (and how my skin drank it up), I loved the ceremony of it. How it looked ridiculous but felt glorious.

But I often wondered if I could enjoy them while side-stepping a little more single-use plastic in my day, so I made Outer Layer (with the help of my wonderful manufacturer, of course).

When it comes to the environmental impact of cosmetics, single-use plastic packaging is a fraction of the story.

Yes, plastic pollution is an obvious environmental problem, but face sheet masks in recyclable packaging is far from saving the day. What's more, without a lifecycle assessment of Outer Layer yet undertaken, the entirety of its environmental footprint isn't yet measured.

I'm not perfect, but my commitment is to run this small business the best I can: to make deliciously hydrating face sheet masks with as little harm done as possible.
